Beyond the modern buildings rising up in Romania nowadays, there are also projects whose beauty might be less visible, but have the charm of “being practical and useful”. PB designed numerous such projects, including large boulevards and access routes whose usefulness today, in an era of massive traffic, is beyond any doubt even though some of them had drawn criticism in the past.

High level passage crossing - Basarab
project details
Project development date: 2001
Basarab passage will connect the road and tram access between Blvd N. Titulescu – Orhideelor Road – Grozavesti bridge - V. Milea avenue (for tram traffic) and Grozavesti Street, thus closing the main ring traffic road of the city in the north-west.
The passage is accessed through a ramp from N. Titulescu Blvd near the intersection with Str. Cuza then crosses over the railways, Bd Dinicu Golescu, going underground on Sos. Orhideelor and aboveground over Plevnei - Orhideelor - Giuleşti crossroad and the existing Grozaveşti bridge, finally returning on ground level on Grozavesti highway.
Drafting the project involves a multitude of public utility works regarding diversion, the design had to be combined with vertical systematization and street-traffic lights, with road works, consisting only a part of this complex project managed by PB.

Unirii Square - underground passageway
project details
Development period: 1986-1987
The construction of this underground passage represented a complex project, with multivariate design, under the supervision of the general designer, Proiect Bucuresti,. The total coverage length is 540 m, with access ramps summing 360 m.
The transversal profile of the passage includes carriageable areas with two lanes for each direction. The total width of the project is 21,50 m, including the air ventilation shafts.
The real engineering challenges were building over Dâmboviţa river, finding technical solutions for the ventilation stations and generating enough space for the dispatch and pumping of the sewerage system as well as the redirection of the public units network between Universitatii Square and Marasesti boulevard.
